Welcome to RealPrana...part of your healing journey towards better health and vitality. Prana is the energy or life force which propels us forward. Without it we suffer from low energy, lack of passion, spiritual weakness and even illness. The purpose of this site will be to provide advice and an open forum of discussion about how to foster Prana in our bodies...how to live with health and exuberance...and how to be one in mind, body and spirit.

FLOWING WITH NATURE
Allowing yourself to consciously be a part of nature's cycle can remind you that even in the midst of trauma, pain or illness peace, wellness and joy are on the way. Observing the ebb and flow of the tide or the change of the seasons helps us realize that nothing can be forced. Everything moves in its own time. Nature cannot be hurried, rushed or changed without consequences. "Follow the way" says the Tao. When nature blows hard remember that it eventually returns to calm. Change the way you view things. Instead o f seeing a thunderstorm as destructive or dreary, view it as temporary and life renewing.  When you're experiencing your own life storms, affirm: "This is temporary. I do not have to be in control of this situation. This too shall pass." Respond to the  circumstances in your life the way nature responds. Changes are a part of the cycle and nothing lasts forever.
Spend some time in nature. Lay in the sun, hike through the woods. Simply sit back and watch the tide break onto the sand. Be a part of the cycle and free yourself from the burden of control.

MIND

EFFORTLESS MEDITATION: Ancient Yogis refer to the mind as "a drunken monkey." It wanders through random thought after random thought without any discipline or direction. Incessently it congers ideas and worries with little reprieve. There is a subtle difference between thinking a thought and being aware of a thought. Thinking a thought, pondering it, allowing it to weigh on your conscious, feels heavy; sometimes burdensome. It can take over your consciousness leading to obsession.
A thought you are aware of with bare intention--with neither grasping or aversion--feels light; there is a distance between you and that thought. Without your reactivity, it is able to merely float away like a balloon up to the sky.
There is a three step form of meditation which can help you obtain this type of "choiceless awareness."
Mountain Meditation: In your meditation pose, imagine in your mind a tall majestic mountain.Picture this mountain in every season, in all types of weather. Realize that throughout all these changes the mountain remains stable and unaffected. Feel that your own body is that mountain, breathing into your stable body and exhaling the storms of the seasons.
Lake Meditation: Move from the mountain to a crystal clear lake. "Sky lakes" are those lakes in the Himalayas which are so high up they reflect the sky perfectly. Picture the translucence of the water, the stillness of the surface. How reflective it is even while being so clear you are able to see into its depths. Notice that the water is reflecting only what is there. It adds nothing. Once your mind has settled, reflect on your own ability to be like this lake: reflective and still, deep and translucent. Edit out all other thoughts.
Big Sky Mind: Move your attention from the lake to the sky above. Notice that the sky is boundless and limitless. It contains everything that arises. Even on the cloudiest day, the sky remains luminous above. When mental clouds come into your mind, simply shift your focus to the sky above them. In doing that we can see our true nature and our awareness arises.

BODY

AVOID TOXINS IN YOUR HYGIENE PRODUCTS:  There are real life risks to products we use every day. Sometimes even small exposure to these toxins can have a huge impact on the body, especially if you are already weakened by chronic illness.

Ironically one of the more dangerous products is one we use with the idea that it will improve our health. We believe we are doing the right thing for ourselves and our family when we use antibacterial soaps and cleaners, thinking they kill germs better than regular soaps. But according to Allison Aiello, PHD, assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan, "Consumer bacterial soaps don't reduce bacteria or prevent disease spread any better than ordinary washing."

Worse, data suggests that use of these products may contribute to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant "super-bugs."  On top of that, they also contain a very harmful chemical agent called triclosan.

In a study conducted recently, 75% of adults and childrens' urine tested positive for triclosan, the most common antibacterial ingredient. This is a chemical which, when released into the environment on our surface water creates the even more dangerous chemical Dioxin, a known cancer-causing agent.

In a study conducted on rats, triclosan caused a significant disruption in the animals' thyroid hormone production. It has also proven to be an endocrine disruptor. Triclosan was found to attach to cells in the brain. These cells then become overloaded with calcium, burning out neural receptors. In children this can lead to developmental problems and delays.

Many of our hygiene products contain triclosan including toothpaste, body wash, hand soap, and cleaning products for the home. Look for triclosan on the labels of the products you shop for and avoid it at all costs.

ALTERNATIVE HEALTH MODALITY:

                                                                                                   QUANTUM TOUCH

Quantum Touch is similar to Reiki Healing therapy in that it uses one body's energy to reset that of another. Only modern Western culture has failed to recognize the perpetual movement of life-force energy which flows through all living creatures, humans included. Life energy is what differentiates what is living and what is not. The Chinese call it "Chi," the Japanese "Ki," Hawiian Kahunas refer to it as "Mana," and Indian yogis of course "prana." All of these cultures use this force for hands-on or distance healing.
Quantum Touch is not something you need to pay someone to do. Anyone is capable of doing this, even a child. First there are various energy exercises you must learn. These exercises are specifically to help you increase your own energy awareness and the physical sensations they create in your hands. With some effort you may eventually increase the  flow of energy in your own body so that you may correct  stagnant or weak energy in someone else.
Start slowly, even with just one finger. In a meditation, bring awareness to how it feels, the sensation of energy flowing through it. Eventually draw that same awareness to your entire body, one part at a time. Then work on the breath. There are a few breathing techniques which can help facilitate the flow of energy either within your own body or from your body to another. A simple one is to breath in for a count of 4 as you sweep your body from your feet to your head with your hands, then exhale letting all sensation concentrate in your hands.
You can start the healing session when you have done the preparation and can feel the energy coursing through your hands. Place your hands on or over an area where energy is blocked or imbalanced. Energy imbalances create pain, swelling, disease, or any other discomfort. Keep up with your breath work as you apply your thoughts and energy to that area. You or the person you are working on may feel the pain begin to shift. Simply shift your hands with it. Usually a session of 30 minutes to an hour can bring relief and profoundly accelerate the body's own healing response. Pain and inflammation, structural realignment, even balancing of the systems, organs and glands can occur.
We all have an inherent ability to heal. If you can breath, love, and have awareness you can heal yourself and others. The more you practice on yourself and loved ones, the stronger your energy will become and ultimately your power to heal.
